Gaia M. Bicudo's (owner) Bio:
Having always been interested in the human body and the way it works, I recognize the importance of balancing the body, mind and spirit, not only through exercise, diet, touch but also through sound.

I attended the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts and attained my diploma as a Swedish Massage Therapist.

Through the course of my studies I gained experience in chair massage, aromatherapy, lymphatic drainage, medical massage, sport massage, polarity, cranial work, reflexology and hydrotherapy.

During the years of my practice as a massage therapist I had a deep sense of knowing that there was more to helping the body heal than just physical touch.

I began the journey of working with natures gifts. I studied with the founder of La Stone Therapy, Mary Nelson and the founder of Crystal Light Therapy, Patrica Edge Huff. I then moved right along into Integrated Energy Therapy.

The big AH HA came with the study of sound. I had taken a course in Bio-Sonic Repattering, which is the study of the use of tuning forks on and around the body, into the evolution of Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls then into voice. Sound has brought me full circle and was largely a part of what I was searching for. Sound is now incorporated into every treatment.

Any number of these practices can be combined with Swedish massage. I find this gives your body the opportunity to release right down to the cellular level.

Omaha Wholistic Spa is a professional service offering a safe, compassionate and a therapeutic environment for those:

*seeking relief from chronic or acute pain
*on a spiritual or healing journey
*who truly enjoy alternative bodywork
and / or
*who simply wish to relax!

Jennifer Johnson, Omaha Wholistic Spa, Whitehorse

Jennifer Johnson's Bio:

I am an advanced remedial massage therapist that believes massage has the ability to balance the soft tissue structures of the body.  As well, I believe that through massage you can alter the resting state of the bony structures of the body ultimately increasing mobility.

I graduated in June 2008 from the Massage Therapy College of Manitoba from a 2200-hour program.  Through this program, I studied Advanced Anatomy and Physiology, Orthopedic Assessment, Kinesiology, Advanced Treatment Techniques, Hydrotherapy, Ethics, Sports Massage, Muscle Energy Techniques, Remedial Exercise, Joint Mobility and Myofascial Techniques.  I also completed outreach programs within the community dealing with the elderly and people with disabilities as well as numerous clinic rotations with the public.

I enjoy the opportunity of educating my clients on the benefits of massage. I see massage as a collaborative effort to well being between myself and my clients.

I am licensed through the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada

Melissa Väljä, Omaha Wholistic Spa, Whitehorse

Melissa Väljä's Bio:

In June 2008 I graduated from the Wholistic Massage Therapy program at the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  I learned Swedish Massage, and spent some time studying Shiatsu, Medical Massage, and Cranio-Sacral Therapy.

During the past few years I have taken courses for doula training, INFACT Canada Lactation Management, and Well-Breast Massage.  My focus in women's health is driven by a calling to become a midwife.

I have lived in Old Crow and Whitehorse working in the environmental field since 2004 and now I am excited to return to the Yukon and ready to work for the Earth in new ways -  through the power of conscious human touch.  In my life I try to honour what Sant Baljit Singh says, "Change your self and change the world."

Theresa Gulliver

Theresa Gulliver's Bio:

My interest in movement and stretch as a profound way to open and heal the body is a blossoming passion within me.

I am a Certified Thai Yoga Massage practitioner through the Lotus Palm School of Thai Yoga Massage training program in Montreal, Quebec. Founded in 1995 by Kam Thye Chow, Lotus Palm is the foremost institution in North America specializing in traditional Thai massage. I am also a member of the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada.

I developed a love for Thai Yoga Massage after experiencing its benefits first hand 6 years ago and then studying the technique, which I feel is the perfect combination of stretch, touch and relaxation.

I am also a certified Hatha Yoga Instructor in the Kripalu tradition. With an emphasis on body alignment and awareness, I feel honoured to guide people through their own journey of self-discovery through yoga. Since my certification in 2004, I have instructed yoga in Vancouver and more recently in Whitehorse at Isis, Shanti Yoga and Yoga in the Alpine.

I enjoy incorporating my knowledge of Yoga with Thai Yoga Massage to offer you a relaxing and opening massage experience.
